The cheapest landline deals just became even cheaper!
Cap the cost of your landline calls by getting the cheapest deal around with TalkTalk – to get it at that price you must buy it through price comparison site uSwitch.com, giving you a discount on part of the line rental fee.
Switching to TalkTalk’s Talk 2 International call planner though uSwitch gets you two months of line rental free. Yet as this deal's only available until the end of this month, you've got to act quickly to get it.
Line rental usually works out at £16.39 a month over the 18 month contract, but with this deal you’re effectively only paying £15 a month in exchange for line rental, broadband, free UK evening and weekend calls to other land lines plus free international calls on top.
Although TalkTalk received negative press in the past for struggling to cope with the demand of its services, things have greatly improved within the last few months yet like all phone & broadband providers some will still have bad experiences.
More details, links and options are in Martin's step-by-step Cheapest Home Phones article.
Speed up that slow, old computer on the cheap
It's possible to super-charge your laptop for around £20 and give it an injection of speed if it’s starting to show its age.
Discount electronics site www.7dayshop.com is selling 2GB of RAM, which dictates how fast your computer processes data. It costs £22 including delivery; half the usual cost to speed up your computer. If you've currently got 1GB or less, this should make a significant difference to performance.
You’ll need to check whether your computer can handle the increased memory first. The quickest and easiest way to find out is to use an incredibly handy webtool at http://www.crucial.com/uk/. Use the drop-downs to find your make and model of laptop, and it'll tell you which type of memory it takes.
It's usually easy to fit new memory into a laptop yourself, though if you're really shaky with computers it still might be worth asking somebody else to do it for you. It usually entails unscrewing a small panel on the bottom of your machine and sticking the new memory in the place of the old piece.
But always consult your user manual to locate the memory panel on your machine, switch off and un-plug your computer, and make sure you're wearing an anti-static wrist band.
Now’s the perfect time to switch energy provider
It’s been a good time to switch gas and electricity supplier over the past few weeks but you couldn't get a more perfect time than now.
That’s because Scottish and Southern Energy has become the last of the big six energy providers to up its prices so finally there's a completely level playing field.
Prices may go up further still, but if you use a comparison website right now you’ll get as good an idea as ever for the top deal to save you £100s.
To find out how to switch provider, and get up to £30 cashback too, read Martin's full Cheapest Gas & Electricity article.
An egg-citing offer
Now’s the perfect time to pick up bargain-basement Easter eggs. Many of the big supermarket chains are flogging cheap chocolate goodies so grab them while you can. And with discounts around the half-price range, chocolate lovers are sure to get a fix of waist-expanding confectionery on the cheap.
And that leads nicely onto gym membership. If you took advantage of the cheap membership deals in January but aren’t going you should just cancel it if you can. While you’re no longer shedding pounds from your body make sure you’re not losing pounds from your wallet for something you're not using.
