Iwan Thomas

Wed 30th January 2008

Athlete Iwan Thomas says that he comes from a family that has always been very sensible with money.

He has a stash of medals and is now a TV celebrity but is he making the most of his hard-earned cash?

Well, while some of his record-breaking runs were off the scale, so too was the amount Martin reckons Iwan could help himself to, just by selecting his providers a little more carefully. The figure he could save is over £3,000 from his financial products and his two mobile phones.

To start with, he could slash his mobile bills by £2,400 a year as he is paying far too much by failing to opt for tariffs with high enough inclusive minutes and texts.

He could also save another £500 a year by getting a cashback credit card from American Express. Iwan currently spends up to £4,000 a month but uses a mixture of his Natwest debit card and his Natwest credit card, neither of which give cashback.

His Natwest bank account also fails to pay him any interest on his in-credit balance, when he could be getting 8% on balances up to £2,500 with Abbey.

And he could probably save even more by switching gas and electricity provider but Martin was so busy helping Iwan save on the other stuff he didn’t have time to talk about energy.
