Edwina Currie

Wed 7th May 2008

Edwina Currie knows more than a thing or two about how to manage the running of the country after a distinguished career as an MP.

And she makes a pretty good job of managing her own finances as well, even though Martin can still save her some cash.

She installed solar panels in her home seven years ago for around £4,500. They may have cost a bomb at the time but with energy prices having rocketed since then, she's probably already broken even on that outlay by slashing the cost of her energy bills.

Edwina also paid off her mortgage last year by moving cash from some of her investments as she thought they'd reached the peak of their return. That's saved her thousands in interest payments over the next few years.

However, Martin could save her £500 a year in total. To begin with she could switch her broadband from BT to Sky and save £150 a year.

In addition, if she used a cashback credit card for her regular spending, that could net her another £350 a year as she currently uses her debit card, which doesn't offer any rewards.

Take a peek at what was in Anne Diamond's wallet last week.
