Dermot Murnaghan

Wed 21st May 2008

Dermot Murnaghan is more comfortable interviewing guests as a presenter and newsreader for the BBC, ITN and now Sky.

But now the tables are turned as he's grilled by Martin over the content of his wallet.

Dermot used to be a business reporter so had a head start on many as he's familiar with finance. He's put some of that knowledge to good use by investing some of his cash wisely.

But Martin still found almost £900 a year he could save the ace newsreader.

The biggest saving comes on his mobile phone bills. Dermot is a high user both at home and abroad yet he has no idea how much he spends. Martin reckons that by haggling with his phone company he could cut around £500 a year from his bill by ensuring he's on a tariff with plenty of inclusive minutes and texts.

He could also bag himself a decent savings account. Dermot has £10,000 sitting in his current account earning little more than £10 a year. But he could boost that to almost £400 by moving that money to Kaupthing Edge's savings account which pays 6.5% interest after tax.

Take a peek at what was in Craig Revel-Horwood's wallet last week.
