Anne Diamond

Wed 30th April 2008

Anne Diamond was the queen of the couch on breakfast TV in the 1980s.

She now writes children’s books and has her own jewellery range. But what is she like with her finances?

Well, if she followed Martin's advice she could be thousands of pounds better off each year. It's not that Anne is bad with her finances, just that she has a huge amount of savings in a decent account but she could make almost £6,000 a year extra if she moved it into a top account.

She has hundreds of thousands from the sale of a property lying in an account paying 5%. However, she could earn 6.5% on that amount if she moved it to an account paying well in excess of 6%.

However, it's best if she spreads her eggs across a number of savings accounts as only the first £35,000 of funds are protected in the unlikely event her bank went bust.

Anne could save another £500 a year by switching her mobile phone tariff. She currently pays £85 a month as she doesn't have enough inclusive minutes in her package so is paying through the nose for many of her calls.

By haggling with her provider and getting a better deal she could get that down to £40 a month.

She also pays for directory enquiry calls on her mobile but could get the same information for nothing by using the free services  available.
