The agony aunt and radio host is an expert at solving other people’s problems but it’s a role-reversal this time as Vanessa took the Wallet workout. And Martin found many ways she could save on her hard-earned cash.
In just two minutes, he managed to save her £580 a year. For instance, she spends £3,000 a month on a mixture of her Barclays debit card and Barclaycard credit card. Yet neither offer her cashback for spending. If she took out an American Express Platinum Moneyback card she could pocket an extra £400 a year.
She also spends £180 a year on her broadband when she could get it for free from Sky as she already subscribes to the television service.
Vanessa could make further savings that Martin couldn't cover in the show. She could switch her low-paying tax-free cash ISAs to Icesave’s top-paying account as it allows transfers in and gives a 6.1% rate. She could also transfer her current account away from Barclays to Coventry Building Society’s First account as it pays 5.85% interest on credit balances rather than the 0.1% she’s currently getting.
Take a peek at what was in Christopher Biggins' wallet last week.
