Tre Azam
Wed 19th March 2008
Tre’s story is the classic rags to riches tale. Just five years ago he was ‘signing on’ at the Job Centre; now he runs a hugely successful marketing business which he set up before going onto The Apprentice.
But is Tre, who finished fourth during last year’s series of Alan Sugar's hit show, as good at looking after his money as he is building his fortune?
As you’d expect from a star of The Apprentice, Tre makes a lot of shrewd decisions when it comes to money. For one, he gets cashback on his mobile contract, though it is not an easy process as he has to send back statements at set points throughout the year. He keeps a diary on a white board of when he has to send back his statements to ensure he doesn’t miss any deadlines.
However, he could save £500 a year by spending on the top cashback credit card. He currently spends around £2,500 a month on plastic but if he took out the American Express Platinum Moneyback credit card he would get paid 5% of anything he spends during the first three months of having the account and up to 1.5% after that.
Martin couldn’t help Tre make money by saving in an Isa, or any other savings account, because he is a Muslim and complies with Sharia Law so he cannot earn interest on his money and therefore doesn't have any savings accounts.
