Suzanne Shaw

Wed 29th October 2008

This week’s Cash Quiz contestant, Suzanne Shaw, started dancing at the age of three.

A lucky break on TV talent show Popstars saw her elevated to the dizzy heights of singing fame with the band Hear'Say.
To top it all she’s been voted celebrity mum of the year.
But, as a mum, does she know enough about food shopping to become only the second celeb to get their hands on the coveted Golden Piggy?

Sadly, she didn't quite hit the jackpot. Asked what is the WORST supermarket deal of the following: three-for-two, 40% extra or a third off, she though the answer was 1/3 off. However, the worst is 40% extra as the other two are effectively 50% extra.

Suzanne got the next question right, correctly stating you're likely to get a better discount by downshifting from buying ordinary brands, such as McVities, to supermarket-own brands, such as Morrisons Own; rather than from premium brands, like Tesco Finest, to ordinary brands.

However, on the crunch question to claim the Piggy Suzanne fell a fraction short. The question was, on a tin of peas with a 'best before' date of yesterday, should you throw them away, eat within a week or use your judgment? She was torn between the first two options but the correct choice would have been the third, to use your judgment. That's because 'best before' doesn't mean you should use it by a certain date, just that it's best by that date but is still usable after.
